Maundy Thursday Service
Maundy Thursday is a time for celebrating The Last Supper. As part of this celebration, Jesus gives us a new commandment, which is where the name “Maundy” comes from. The Latin word “Mandatum” (“commandment”) focuses us on what Jesus said: “I give you a new commandment; that you love one another.”
At the conclusion of this service, the altar is stripped of any ornamentation and crosses are removed or veiled to mark the humiliation of the Christ and the solemnity of our Lenten vigil.
