The Divine Call Process
As a congregation of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod (LCMS), our church uses the Divine Call process to prayerfully seek God’s will for who is to take up the divinely-instituted office of pastoral ministry in our midst. This is very different than just “hiring” an available pastor — we take the opportunity to identify our congregation’s strengths and challenges, prayerfully consider the mission to which God is calling us here, and build a vision for ministry and leadership. This then informs our process of gathering nominations, interviewing candidates, and eventually issuing a Call to a pastor. Soaking this process in prayer, we seek God’s direction and guidance at each step of the way. For a sketch of the process, please see the graphic below.
The church Council, our local lay leadership body, has formed a Call Committee to manage and guide this process. If you have ideas, thoughts, feelings, or cookies, please feel free to reach out to anyone on the Call Committee — we’d love to hear what you’re thinking and what’s on your heart.
If you have a pastor you’d like to nominate for consideration in the call process, you can download the pastoral nomination form below, fill it out, and either email it to the Call Committee chair, Mike Berg, or deliver it in-person at your convenience.
